October 8, 1938 - April 22, 2021

William H. Root, 82, of Michigan City passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Life Care Center in Michigan City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Church with Rev. Kevin Huber, officiating. Entombment will take place after mass in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Legacy Center at Queen of All Saints Church.

Bill was born October 8, 1938 in Michigan City to the late Joseph M. and Margaret R. (Biever) Root.

On September 16, 1961 in Michigan City at St. Mary's Church he married Carol A. (Goralski) Root who is surviving in Michigan City.

Also surviving are four children, Thomas W. (The late Carol L.) Root, Linda M. (Mark) Zeese, Brian W. (Dana) Root and Kristy M. (Chris) Bardol; nine grandchildren, Kelli, Aaron and Kerry Zeese, Madison and Connor J. Root; and McKenzie, Cormack, Sean and Riggs Bardol, and many loving friends in Michigan City and his second home in Pinellas Park, Florida.

He is preceded in death by one son, David Root and one brother, Dr. John Root.

Bill was the retired owner of the Root Funeral Home in Michigan City. Bill passed the business over to his sons so that he could spend more time enjoying golfing, traveling and reading.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School and St. Mary's High School where he played on the basketball team. Bill after graduating went to Worsham College of Mortuary Science and then joined his parents in the running the funeral home and ambulance services.

He was a member of Queen of All Saints Church and Past President of the Parish Council. He also was a member and Past President of the Michigan City Lions Club; member of the Knights of Columbus 12951 and Past Grand Knight of the Michiana Council; he served on the board of the Travelogue Series in Michigan City and was the Secretary for many years; member and Past President of the Polish Business and Professional Club; member and Past District Deputy of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association; Past President of the Shores HOA; Past President of the Mainland Men's Club in Florida; and he served on the Supervisory Board at Members Advantage Credit Union for many years.

Among his greatest joys were camping with family and friends, going to sporting events and watching his grandchildren play, and traveling with his wife Carol.

The family wishes to thank Life Care Center for the great care of Bill during his last days with us. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
