Jay Downs April 9, 1962-September 10, 2015
Jay E Downs, 53, of Michigan City, passed away on Thursday, September 10 at his
home.
Jay has donated his body to the University of Chicago Anatomical Society. The
family will receive friends from 2 to 4 Saturday, October 17 for a memorial service
at the Root Funeral Home in Michigan City.
Jay was born on April 9, 1962 in Michigan City, Indiana to Barbara (Smith) and
Stanley Downs who both preceded him in death.
Surviving is his son Bryan (Lindsey) Downs of Bozeman, Montana. Also two sisters
Joan (Kenneth) Johnson of Michigan City, Julie (Bob) Rusboldt of Chesterton, four
brothers, Jim Downs, Joel Downs of LaPorte and Jack (Kristie) Downs, Jerry (Janet)
Downs of Michigan City and an uncle, aunts, any many cousins, nephews and
nieces.
Jay received his accounting degree at Indiana University in South Bend and was an
accountant at Sullair Corporation for many years. His later years were spent out of
the workforce caring for both of his parents when their health was failing.
He played little league baseball in Springfield Township and continued playing
throughout high school at MC Rogers. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching
games played at every level even the Cubs and especially those played by his
younger family members. Recently, long walks were his routine but his greatest
passion was spending time with family. He felt so honored in seeing his son Bryan
marry his bride Lindsey this summer.
His family will remember Jay as a man with the purest of hearts. While his health
was always in decline, he never complained about it and showed care, compassion
and love for his family, friends and neighbors.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of the
donors choice.
